Who has need of your help?
Depending upon your availability and your interests there are many projects with which one can lend a hand. We are in contact with Solidaridad en Marcha, an association which tries to meet the needs of the most poor, seeking to give them living conditions fitting to their human rights and dignity. The following institutions belong to this association:
Holy Family Clinic: Situated in the dire poverty which characterizes the so called “youth towns” or “Pueblos Jovenes” which surround Lima, this is an institution in which work people animated by the desire to treat patients as real people and with respect, giving them one-to-one attention. It works to extend services and activities linked to healthcare and the promotion of the human being. It will be possible for you to help and guide patients in various ways to help meet their needs even the practical ones. There are various types of activities including administrative work, health promotional campaigns and maintenance on the local infrastructure
Maria Guia Kindergarten: This is an educational centre for young children aged from 2-5 years situated in Pampas of San Juan, a very poor area near the suburbs of Lima. The children always need someone to look after and play with them, if you have the ability and interest it is also possible to give some of the lessons.
Germain Doig Rehabilitation Centre: The Centre wascreated in order to offer rehabilitation of various types to people of scarce means. It has a gym for physical therapy geared towards not only adults but children and young people as well; a language and learning therapy area; an early stimulation room and an occupational work related therapy room, which helps disabled people, take up job trade skills and get themselves back into the jobs market. Patients require assistance during their therapy and it is also possible to offer to help at an organizational level if you’d prefer.
Armonizar is an organization dedicated to the growth of harmony; physical, psychological and spiritual amongst children with hare-lips. With the help of professionals and volunteers with differing specialties they are offering an integrated interdisciplinary approach which helps them to realize their potential and be integrated into society. Your time would be divided between the children and their parents as they undertake their therapy, as well as lending a hand to improve the facilities.
Cruz Blanca or White Cross tries to create a space for the formation and recreation of boys and girls from the urban outskirts of cities such as Lima and Callao, taking them off the streets during summer monthsand giving them the chance to experience, even for a little while, a proper childhood. They are looking to involve people willing to live in solidarity and love with these children who have major needs.
